First dates are filled with butterflies, excitement, and future possibilities. They are a fun and interesting experience, and you get to know someone for the first time. Therefore, first impressions are key when winning over the other person. Everything from their sense of style, personality, and food they eat will tell you whether or not you want to continue going on dates. When on a first date, eating messy or smelly foods should be completely avoided. Here are the 7 foods you should avoid on a first date

Spaghetti

A romantic night at an Italian restaurant sounds great, but slurping down on messy pasta is not the most appealing thing to see on a date. Instead, choose an easier-to-eat pasta like penne.

Sparkling drinks and soda

Although these drinks are delicious, they also have a lot of fizzy gas inside of them, which will cause an upset stomach.

Ribs and wings

Nobody wants to see somebody they barely know picking apart meat from a bone. These meals are also usually filled with heavy sauce most likely causing you to create a mess.

Shellfish

There's nothing like the smell of fish on a first date to completely turn you off from the other person. Not only does it smell bad, seeing someone claw and break apart big chunks of fish with their hands is not what you want to see on a date.

Onion/garlic heavy foods

There is almost nothing better than a nice, warm piece of garlic bread. There’s also nothing worse than having terrible breath on a first date. Skip the foods high in garlic and onion and eat them once you’re in the comfort of your home.

Sushi

Sushi dates are fun, but trying to eat a giant roll of sushi while still looking chic and classy is not easy. If you are eating sushi on your date, get the smaller rolls and avoid the bigger ones.

Salad

Contrary to popular belief, big, leafy salads are not what you should be ordering on a first date. These foods are hard to eat neatly, and will most likely get stuck in your teeth, especially if it contains spinach.
